The Credit Information Providers Association of Uganda (CIPA Uganda) was established to play  a convening role among stakeholders in the credit information sharing eco-system and to promote a sustainable and inclusive credit information sharing market that enables access to finance to the last mile.

Tier IV Credit Information Sharing Mechanism

Pursuant to Section 8 (2)L of the Tier IV Microfinance Institutions and Money Lenders Act, 2016 which mandates Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority(UMRA) to establish a mechanism of reporting credit information by the Tier IV to the CRBs; UMRA partnered with Credit Information Providers Association as the implementing agency for Section 8 (2)L of the Tier 4 Microfinance and Money Lenders Act, 2016.

Promote a market driven, reciprocating and self-regulating CIS mechanism

The Credit Information Providers  Association strives to establish a sustainable CIS framework that operates effectively in Uganda’s unique credit environment. This objective emphasizes fostering a culture of responsible lending and borrowing by ensuring that all stakeholders—credit providers, regulators, and borrowers—actively participate in and benefit from a robust, market-responsive system.

Promote the expansion of CIS to Accredited Credit Providers (ACPs).

The Credit Information Providers Association is committed to broadening the reach and impact of the Credit Information Sharing (CIS) mechanism by integrating more Accredited Credit Providers (ACPs) into the system. This expansion ensures that all credit providers, regardless of size or operational model, benefit from and contribute to a unified, comprehensive credit information ecosystem.

Lobby and Lead stakeholder engagements on CIS legal and regulatory reforms.

The Credit Information Providers Association (CIPA) plays a pivotal role in advocating for and shaping a legal and regulatory environment that supports effective Credit Information Sharing (CIS). By engaging with policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders, CIPA aims to influence reforms that enhance the CIS framework, promote transparency, and protect the interests of both credit providers and borrowers.

Organize CIS public awareness campaigns and training for members.

The Credit Information Providers Association (CIPA) recognizes the importance of raising public awareness about the benefits of Credit Information Sharing (CIS) and equipping its members with the knowledge and skills needed for effective participation. Through targeted campaigns and capacity-building initiatives, CIPA aims to create a well-informed public and a highly competent membership base to strengthen the CIS framework.

Mobilize resources and technical support to build good quality data.

The Credit Information Providers Association (CIPA) is committed to ensuring that the Credit Information Sharing (CIS) mechanism is underpinned by high-quality, accurate, and comprehensive data. To achieve this, CIPA prioritizes the mobilization of financial resources, technical expertise, and innovative tools to support its members in maintaining and improving data standards.
