About CIPA

The Credit Information Providers Association of Uganda (CIPA Uganda) was established to play a convening role among stakeholders in the credit information sharing eco-system and to promote a sustainable and inclusive credit information sharing market in Uganda.

One of the most significant benefits of CIS is the increased access to credit. For many consumers, especially those without physical collateral, obtaining credit can be challenging. However, when financial institutions share credit information, they can create a more comprehensive and accurate picture of a consumer’s creditworthiness. This broader view allows lenders to extend credit to a wider range of consumers, including those without physical collateral basing on their credit-worthiness (reputational collateral). Consumers who have demonstrated responsible borrowing behavior benefit from this transparency, as their positive credit history is more likely to be recognized and rewarded by various lenders.
